Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

  • You can begin by submitting an enquiry or booking an appointment online.

If you are unsure where to start, our team can assist you in understanding the process and help you take the next step in a way that feels manageable.

  • A referral is not required to access therapy.

If you would like to receive a Medicare rebate, you will need a valid Mental Health Care Plan and referral from your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician.

  • We take a considered approach to matching you with a psychologist.

Your needs, preferences, and goals are taken into account, along with each clinician’s experience and areas of practice. If at any stage you feel the fit is not quite right, we can support you in exploring alternative options.

Therapy process

  • The first session focuses on understanding your current concerns and what has brought you to therapy.

Your psychologist may ask about your experiences, background, and what you would like support with. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and develop an understanding of the therapeutic approach.

You are not expected to cover everything in one session. The pace is guided collaboratively, with your consent and comfort in mind.

  • Therapy is a collaborative process.

Your psychologist will work with you to develop a shared understanding of your experiences and identify areas of focus. This may involve exploring patterns of thinking, emotional responses, and behaviours, as well as developing practical strategies.

Approaches are tailored to your individual needs and may draw on a range of evidence-based therapies.

  • There is no fixed number of sessions.

The duration of therapy varies depending on your goals, the nature of your concerns, and your preferences. Some people attend for a shorter period focused on a specific issue, while others engage in longer-term work.

This can be reviewed over time with your psychologist.

Online therapy

  • Sessions are conducted via a secure video platform, allowing you to attend from a location that feels private and comfortable.

Online therapy follows the same structure as in-person care, including assessment, goal setting, and evidence-based intervention.

  • Research indicates that online therapy can be effective for a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, and trauma-related difficulties.

Outcomes can vary depending on individual circumstances, the therapeutic relationship, and the approach used.

  • To attend online therapy, you will need:

    • a stable internet connection

    • a device with a camera and microphone

    • a private and quiet space
Setting aside time before your session to prepare can be helpful.

  • If technical issues occur, your psychologist will work with you to reconnect.

Where appropriate, sessions may continue via phone or be rescheduled to support continuity of care.
